How to create Healthy Habits for Weight Loss
Have you found the start of 2022 wasn’t quite what you expected?
We all started the year packed full of motivation and hope, with no further lockdowns and the freedom to train!
However, if you’re anything like us, this year has in fact been a little disjointed and we can’t believe that it’s nearly May!
Between catching Covid (or avoiding it), the never-ending rain and finally being able to travel, it’s hard to really be consistent with training and prioritising our health and fitness.
But don’t fret, there’s still time to kick those health habits into place before Summer and we can promise you the 8-week Challenge is the place to start!
What are habits?
Small decisions and actions that you make in your daily life without even thinking about it. Good habits make life a heck of a lot easier; imagine if eating healthy snacks was as habitual as brushing your teeth.
How do we develop good habits?
Taking inspiration from James Clear’s book, Atomic Habits, habits are created from cues, which create cravings, triggering a response and resulting in a reward. To create good habits, we simply need to work backwards, thinking about the response you would like, for example, going to your gym class at 6am three times a week, then thinking of an easy que that will help trigger that response, like having your gym clothes laid out ready to go when you wake up.
The craving is triggered by the reward, so you also need to have planned in what the reward will be from the response of your healthy habit. For example, each time you go to the gym in the morning, it will mean when you get home from work in the evening, you can catch-up on your latest Netflix binge.
The main concept behind good habits, is keeping it simple.
