Supplement Season - True Protein WPI 90

 

Weight Loss Challenge Nutritionist, Kelly Richardson, recommends that there are certain supplements that we could all benefit from taking. During April, we will be introducing to you a new recommended supplement, some of which will be in the form of Vitamins and Minerals, and some will be food replacements. *

The first supplement we are going to look at is True Protein WPI 90. This is essentially a Protein Powder that can be added to smoothies, Bliss Balls, porridge and more!

 
 

True Protein’s WPI 90 comes in a variety of flavours including, Vanilla, Chocolate, Cookies & Cream, Chocolate Mint, Banana & Honey, as well as flavoured Vegan options! Therefore, we find it not just beneficial for the body, but also delicious!  

WPI 90 is made from the Whey part of the milk from grass-fed New Zealand cows (the best in the world!). As the lactose and carbohydrates in the milk are removed, you’ll find the protein should be nice and easy to digest.

Benefits:

-        WPI 90 contains all 8 of the amino acids. These are the essential building blocks of protein that help our bodies recover and repair. Our body cannot naturally make these amino acids and that is why it is essential that we add them to our diets.

-        During strength training we create micro muscle tears that need to be fed protein to repair quicker and ultimately, make us stronger!

-        Adding protein to our breakfast can reduce the amount of carbohydrates we consume first thing. This will lower the insulin spike and reduce the dip in blood sugar we feel around lunch time which can cause us to binge eat and gain weight.

-        If you have had recent surgery, the added protein can also help in the muscle symphysis and therefore help increase the rate of repair.

How to consume:

We recommend for the general population, that one scoop of protein powder added to breakfast smoothies or bowls is the best way to consume WPI 90.  See one of our favourite WPI 90 smoothie recipes below:

 

CHERRY RIPE SMOOTHIE

SERVES 1 FEMALE

250ml almond milk

50g natural yogurt

1 scoop True Protein Vanilla WPI 90

1 tbsp cacao

90g cherries

15g coconut cream

1 cup ice

SERVES 1 MALE

250ml almond milk

150g natural yogurt

1 scoop True Protein Vanilla WPI 90

1 tbsp cacao

150g cherries

25g coconut cream

1 cup ice

 
 

METHOD

I. Add all of the ingredients to a high-speed blender or blend with a stick blender.

II. Pour into one glass or portable protein shaker and serve.

III. You can make this a day or two in advance to save time if you wish.
